THE ONES. AHEAD OF ITS TIME is an original multimedia project that combines live performance, exhibition, installations, video works and photography. This paper deals with women who were pioneers in their fields in our society. Although their achievements were significant for our culture, their work is still not sufficiently known and visible in the cultural and historical heritage of Serbia.
The project is intended for an unconventional space. The inspiration and reason for the project is the life and work of women who worked in the periods of construction and modernization of civil society, who pushed the boundaries in their fields and very often were the first women who worked in certain fields - ahead of their time. We dedicate this project to them as well as to our contemporaries.
Artists in the project use contemporary artistic language that corresponds to the times and has the potential to draw the attention of the audience to the achievements of women who are part of our cultural heritage, but have not been given the importance and visibility they deserve. This scenic Installation takes place in several rooms/spaces, and each room is dedicated to one or more of the women who are the inspiration for the work. At the same time, the works do not have a biographical approach, but a conceptual and transformative one, which brings artistic originality to every element-piece of this multimedia project.
Inspired by the lives of women who were pioneers in their fields in our society: Danica Tomić (1905-1960), the first licensed female pilot in Serbia; Ljubica Marić (1909-2003), the first female composer in Serbia; Jelisaveta Načić (1878-1955), the first female architect in Serbia; Ksenija Atanasijević (1894-1981), philosopher and the first female doctor of science in our country; Anica Savić Rebac (1892-1953), Serbian writer, historian of philosophy, translator and professor at the University of Belgrade; Beta Vukanović (1872-1972), the originator of the first artistic caricature in our country; Jelena Šantić (1944-2000), ballerina and choreographer, human rights activist, pacifist who was among the first to speak out against wars and destruction in the 90s; Jelena J. Dimitrijević (1862-1945), Serbian writer, world traveler and philanthropist, in the history of Serbian literature, is considered the first writer who wrote and published a prose work travelogue; Sonja Drljević (1942-2017) anarcho-communist, feminist and activist of the anti-war movement; Jelena Šantić (1944 – 2000), choreographer, anti-war activist; Draga Dimitrijević Dejanović (1840-1871) Serbian socio-cultural activist, teacher, actress, writer and publicist. Because of the positions she advocated regarding the position of women in society, she was rightly called "the first Serbian feminist"; Katarina Milovuk (1844-1913), manager and lecturer at the Higher Women's School in Belgrade, one of the founders of the Belgrade Women's Society and the Women's Music Society, editor of the women's magazine Domaćica, humanitarian and fighter for women's rights; Maga Magazinović (1882-1968), the first modernist choreographer, philosopher, fighter for women's rights and journalist; Julka Hlapec Đorđević (1882-1969) was a Serbian writer, feminist, critic, activist, philosopher, translator; Jelena Spiridonović Savić (1890-1974) Serbian poet, storyteller and essayist; Savka Subotić (1834-1918) Serbian philanthropist and one of the first feminists in Vojvodina;
