INTERNATIONAL SUMMER SCHOOL OF CONTEMPORARY THEATRE FOR ACTORS/DANCERS AND DIRECTORS
17 – 29. June 2024, Belgrade
This year, DAH Theatre celebrates the 20th International School for Actors, Dancers, and Directors.
The previous three years brought us numerous restrictions caused by the global pandemic, challenges that have shaped our lives in many ways, including life in the theatre. Despite these challenges, we continue, and our International
School celebrates its 20th anniversary!
SCHOOL WORK PROGRAM
Who can apply?
Professionals or students (regardless of training or technique) including: actors, directors, dancers, choreographers.
Working at the School gives participants the option of working as directors or performers.
A new approach in which directors and actors and/or dancers jointly engage in creative physical and vocal training and in the process of creating materials from which, through montage, they create a performance.
Practical work in the hall
10:00 AM – 4:00 PM (including Saturday)
During this period, students will work with the directors and founders of DAH Theatre, Dijana Milošević and Jadranka Anđelić, and actress Ivana Milenović Popović. They will work on various skills and techniques that form actors/dancers/directors.
They will explore the principles of acting presence, translating different art forms into stage form, and how personal stories and biographies can serve as a basis for working on a play.
The work will also focus on the directorial process of montage of stage materials to create a theatre or dance performance.
The program is designed to provide practical education in contemporary acting/dance and directing.
• Awareness of the body, movement, and voice: Physical training that develops awareness of the body and presence on stage – the differences between movement and action, how to work with energy in space and energy in time, developing a strong presence on stage
and physical communication skills.
• Voice and speech: physical and vocal projection in space, diction, vocal actions.
• Directing techniques: conception, starting from a specific theme (to be addressed) and developing materials that would result in performance, as well as the montage technique used to compose the entire performance.
Work on individual projects
The last five days are focused on individual projects you are currently working on. We offer you our mentorship, helping you find how these processes can be integrated with the work you want to do in the future. You will work on your project with director Dijana Milošević, Jadranka Anđelić, actress Ivana Milenović Popović, and other professional actors of DAH Theatre.
Work presentations, performances, lectures, film screenings
Students will have the opportunity to watch current
performances of DAH Theatre, as well as attend film screenings and lectures by DAH Theatre artists and invited guest artists.
The program also includes a joint excursion for all participants on weekends.
The working languages of the International School are English and Serbian.
Participants’ impressions
DAH Theatre’s method has given me new angles on how to approach and achieve presence on stage, which is encouraged by the principles of balance and double directions, firmly convinced of the necessity of synergy between voice, movement, and intention. I discovered
the power of associations and montage, the importance of trust and teamwork.
Ivan Nikolic [Serbia], actor
DAH evolved from the legacy of Odin Teatret, and Eugenio Barba (director of Odin Teatret), from the legacy of Grotowski’s theatre. This fact meant a lot to me because in their methodology one can find a direct thread with the source of this type of technique (although DAH’s artists are unique in their work and originality.) They are serious (energetic and soulful) and of great spirit, fearless and dear, and above all interested in your work. It was very important to them that I could apply what I learned from them in my work during rehearsals for future projects.
Nik Rap [USA], theatre director
Theatre director
Great passion, love, and knowledge that are connected with the work of this group, as well as the topics of conversation in which I constantly find myself: European politics, engagement, and a great need for art.
Petra Adlerberth-Wik [Sweden], director
For an actor who wants to search for different approaches and techniques – DAH offers wide possibilities for exploring the body and voice in space. Movement in space, understanding distances and directions in space. Combining this with vocal training
and adopting techniques, the training can provide you with a lot and become part of your daily routine. Creating acting materials and teamwork are one of the most significant contributions of this school. A sense of belonging is what you feel as soon as you step
into DAH.
Vedanth Ramesh [India], actor
The International School is led by actress Ivana Milenović Popović, directors Dijana Milošević and Jadranka Anđelić.
