INVISIBLE CITY

A performance in a public transport bus and a long-standing project of DAH Theatre. Starting from the fact that our cities, in their distant past, as well as today, were multi-ethnic cities, with a large number of inhabitants of different origins and cultures, and that this awareness faded due to the surge of crises and wars that created multi-ethnic tensions, not understanding, we created a project that deals with the promotion of different ethnic cultures that coexist today. [2005 - ]

The main goal of the "Not/Visible City" project is to make the multi-ethnic structure of cities and the wealth of different cultures in Serbia and beyond more visible. That everything that was lost or became invisible, and was created by the joint forces of this society, which is multinational and has been a part of our culture for centuries, should be rediscovered. "Invisible city" looks at the positive aspects of cultural and national diversity, the history of our cities, which was created by many peoples and into which they weaved their culture, customs and creativity.

Through performances in city transport buses, which "narrate" the multi-ethnic history of cities, we want to contribute to the normalization of relations between different ethnic communities living in Serbia and beyond. To contribute to the development of a civil society based on tolerance. The positive reactions of the audience and the public confirmed how much this kind of action was needed by the citizens of Serbia and other countries where we played.

On the route between Mali Bajmok and Palić, which is 10 kilometers long, passengers witnessed a theatrical spectacle accompanied by the sounds of accordion, violin, rap and drums, which was not disturbed by the cramped space or the drifting of the bus in the bend. The performance was designed as a journey through the history of Subotica, and many citizens were delighted with what they heard and learned. (BLIC Vojvodina – Biljana Vučković, 2008)

PROJECT HISTORY

MISSION

The relevance of this project has been confirmed over the years because cultural and ethnic intolerance (unfortunately) continues to change its forms - from discrimination against minorities, to xenophobia that reappears in Europe and discrimination and intolerance towards migrants from other cultures. That is why our mission remains - raising awareness of the right to coexistence, calling for tolerance and acceptance of diversity.
