INVISIBLE CITY 2007 / 2008

Niš, Leskovac, Vranje, Subotica, Inđija

The main goal of the No/Visible City project was to make the multi-ethnic structure of cities in Serbia and the wealth of different ethnic cultures more visible. That what exists and has been a part of our culture for centuries and has become hidden, let us discover it again.

After the success of the pilot project, DAH Theater expanded the project to Serbia in 2007/08 (Novi Sad, Subotica, Inđija, Niš, Leskovac, Vranje). The texts of the plays were created on the basis of research into the history, documentary materials and testimonies, demographic and social structure of the cities where the project took place, carried out by the creative team of the Not/Visible City.

We wanted to contribute to the normalization of relations between different ethnic communities living in Serbia through performances in public transport buses that "told" the multi-ethnic history of cities, through cultural exchange and debates on inter-ethnic tolerance, through the calendar for 2008, in which each month is inspired by the culture of one ethnic community, through a documentary film about the project and travels of the DAH Theater Center for Theater Research in Serbia. To contribute to the development of a civil society based on tolerance.

Through these activities, we remind you that our culture, history, country and daily life are interwoven with the influences of different cultures and that the cities we live in today were created by the work and creativity of citizens who lived there before us, of different ethnic backgrounds.
