ART AND HUMAN RIGHTS FESTIVAL 2023

June 20 – 24, 2023. Belgrade


The third edition of the festival was inspired by Martin Niemöller's song. “They came first” with the aim of connecting artists and defenders of human rights with each other and with the wider community in order to encourage and empower citizens to react against injustice, to take an active role in changes in their communities. The theme of the festival, "Standing up for others is a struggle for ourselves", calls for more empathy and compassion in the time we live in, putting humanity before personal (selfish) needs.

The festival includes artists and activists from Argentina, Armenia, Australia, Brazil, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, Kosovo, Norway, Italy, Serbia and the USA.

PERFORMANCES

Antagon Theater from Germany presents Barbara Luz Carvalho [Brazil] in the play "Corpus Mundi" which deals with the process of decolonizing one's own body and mind, as well as the performance “Camara”, which explores the notion of a new approach to "masculinity". Reflector Theater [Serbia] plays "Girls", a documentary play about growing up as a woman in Serbia today and DAH Theatre "Dancing Trees", about the importance of preserving trees.

WORKSHOPS

"Afro-diasporic body" - a workshop that will deal with the colonization of the body, especially in dance, Barbara Lucy Carvalho [Brazil/Germany]. "Working on a solo performance" - from autobiographical material to a universal story leads Karolina Spaic [Serbia/Netherlands] "Crossroads: theater techniques and human rights" - Workshop led Jadranka Andjelic [Serbia].

INSTALLATIONS, PERFORMANCES

Performance "The Curtain Theory" by Ivana Milenović Popović about empathy and missing babies in Serbia, performance Solvitur Ambundo – a walk through the forest Greenland Fritheater [Norway], with a focus on trees and climate justice; "I love you" performance Snezane Golubović [Serbia/Germany] and performance and interactive installation "15 minutes in the aquarium", Alise Oravec [Serbia] on the subject of "fast fashion" and ocean pollution.

LECTURE

"Art Against Brutality" by Claudia Bernardi [Argentina] founders of the Perquin School of Art - Walls of Hope which deals with art created by victims of state terror, armed conflicts and forced exile. Through the creation of joint murals, public art projects, urban interventions, the focus of the project is to give a voice to participants who survived political violence, to those who have been forgotten or deliberately silenced.

CONCERT

He performs Marcelo – Marko Šelić [Serbia] writer and musician who has published 6 studio albums and 6 books, including 4 novels. He is a regular columnist for the daily newspaper Danas and co-author of the regional television show Perspektiva, which deals with young people.

WALLS OF HOPE

It is an international project of art and human rights, conflict resolution and memory preservation led by a visual artist Claudia Bernardi [Argentina]. The result of painting on the wall of Silos, a participant from Serbia, is a mural that will remain permanently in the public space of Belgrade. .

PROGRAM “ACROSS THE LINE”

Examples of feminist practices of connection, peaceful conflict resolution and cooperation of those who, according to the official narrative, belong to opposing groups. Participating: Zana Hoxha [Kosovo]; Ana Miljanić, Ivana Milenović Popović, Dijana Milošević, Staša Zajović [Serbia].

FILMS, PHOTOGRAPHS

"The Land Where the Trees Fly" by David Barletti and Jacopo Quadri, shows the power of art in the work of ODIN Theater with the community. Followed by online chat with By Eugenia Barba and Julia Varley. Documentary film directed by Maja Mitić, "Everything on a woman's back" [production of NOVA MREŽA] deals with issues of gender equality and sexism in everyday life and the media, through a conversation with actress Mirjana Karanović. "Kings&Queens" is the title of the Photo Exhibition Leon Hendricks and Micha Schneiderberg [Netherlands].

FORUM

Topic on "Standing up for others is fighting for ourselves" recognizes the necessity of solidarity in all times, and especially in times of great change, when society easily forgets or even actively oppresses its weakest members. Participating: Gedi Aniksdal [Norway]; Branislava Jovanović Izabela Kisić, Jelena Krstić, Maja Mitić [Serbia]; Olivera Simić [Bosnia and Herzegovina/Australia]; Karolina Spaić [Serbia/Netherlands]. Moderated by: Dijana Mitrović Longinović [Serbia].
