THEATRE AS A PATH OF HEALING
May 23rd – 27th, 2003.
The festival and conference "Theatre as a way of healing" brought together an international group of artists and theoreticians who, in their work, deal with issues of healing and transformation of difficult experiences using theater techniques.
These questions are extremely important for our country in this period, but also internationally, bearing in mind modern world history. The most important questions in the focus of this festival/conference are: what is the role and power of theater and art in researching content related to healing and reconciliation? What is the power of art in dealing with crimes committed in our name? What are the ways to heal "wounds" made during the past period in our region? What are the experiences of people and artists from other countries?

Rituals and shamanistic practice are the origins of theater. Knowledge of the cosmos, stars, herbs and healing ceremonies preceded modern medicine. Art and theater as we know it today have separated from everyday life as well as modern medicine. Our world is characterized by the separation of the functions of different fields of knowledge and art, but also by the desire to somehow merge or permeate them again. Contemporary theater is increasingly taking on the role of spiritual disciplines, and its healing power is becoming more and more obvious. In a way, we are going back to the beginning. - Jadranka Anđelić
