DOCUMENTS OF TIME

The play, which was created for the specific space of the staircase, was created in Belgrade in the period May-June 1999, during the bombing of our country by NATO forces. It is a testimony to the reality that is dissolving before us. The impossibility of capturing one time, the need for another kind of records and witnesses. [1999]

"When NATO started bombing my country in the spring of 1999, the last year of this century, suddenly everything we knew as human beings and artists was called into question. I suddenly saw that I no longer understood anything about this century, politics, history. My mind was empty facing the strange logic of modern politicians - kill more to prevent killing. My colleagues from the theater shared my opinion. We realized that the wisdom of a time, very old, who can look down on the dark times we live in. So we chose to speak in our play through two very old ladies who came out of old museums, dusty archives, using the collective memory of humanity recorded in books.” – Dijana Milosevic

"If this century has taught us anything, it is that culture is NOT a defense against barbarism. Not because creative people are completely helpless against guns and concentration camps or because a cultured person is at the mercy of an ignorant murderer. Something worse is happening, and that is that the cultured person and the ignorant murderer were very often one and the same." – Fintan O'Toole
