CROSSING THE LINE

DAH Theater's performance based on texts from the book "Women's Side of War" published by the activist group Women in Black (2007). The book is a collection of authentic testimonies of women about the wars that were fought on the soil of the former Yugoslavia from 1991-1999. and was created as a result of a one-year study of Women in Black with regional cooperation with women's non-governmental organizations dealing with human rights and dealing with the past. [2009]

The texts in the book have (mostly) already been published in various anthologies and other publications of these non-governmental organizations and consist of testimonies, statements, letters, memories and show the specificity of the suffering of women in war, but also their courage and strength to overcome war traumas and establish a normal life; also the importance of solidarity with women across all borders and divisions.

All testimonials are in the first person, without comments or other types of use or abuse.

An important goal of the play is to establish a process of dealing with the past. One of the goals of the play is to reach the audience, not only verbally, but primarily on an emotional and psychological level. To encourage women to (pro)speak, to record and, by acknowledging their own sufferings, to recognize the sufferings of "others"; develop solidarity and become aware of the essence of war violence; to engage more actively in democratic processes and participate more actively in building a just and lasting peace.
