“When NATO began bombing my country in the spring of 1999, the last year of this century, suddenly everything we knew as human beings and artists was called into question. I suddenly realized that I no longer understood anything about this century, politics, history. My mind was blank when faced with the strange logic of modern politicians—killing more to prevent killing. My colleagues from the theater shared my opinion. We realized that we needed the wisdom of some time, very old, who can look down on the dark times in which we live.
