TWO GRANDMOTHERS, FOUR CATS, AND A SCOOTER

The authors of the play, Sanja Krsmanović Tasić and Maja Mitić, long-time actresses of DAH Theater, through a witty and warm manner, through the language of theater and art, send children and their parents a message about the beauty of relationships with animals and the importance of growing up with pets, about developing responsibility and caring for others, about the ability to love, grieve, and rejoice. [2009]

What if the drawn characters came to life and became real? If, through mutual relationships and conversations, arguments and songs, laughter and sometimes tears, they spoke about important issues such as: What is happiness? And what is friendship? If they touched on ecology, the truth about witches. If they strolled through ancient Egypt, sailed the sea. If they became aware of what responsibility is, caring for others, acceptance and openness towards the other and the different. The lonely characters eventually realize that it is more meaningful to live in the company of friends and a cat or two.

“When I was little, my mom found a thousand and one reasons not to let me have a pet. Secretly, in a matchbox, I made a space for my pet, I even made him a bed! Since I couldn’t have a dog or a cat, I found an ant – which I kept in that tiny box. But he didn’t manage to survive long in those conditions and died. I was devastated. Over time, the sadness disappeared, and the memory of the ant Toza, that matchbox, my secret, my persistence in having someone to care for, remained.” – Maja Vujović

“It is important that we have close contact with animals throughout our lives. Our care and relationship with them enriches us, makes us better and happier. This play was created on the basis of conversations between Maja and me, on many travels and performances of DAH Theater, when we missed our children, our loves, and inevitably – our pets. It was also created on the basis of a great desire to address the youngest audience. I look forward to every future performance and children’s smile!” – Sanja Krsmanović Tasić
