DANCING WITH DARKNESS

A solo performance in which actress Sanja Krsmanović Tasić, addressing the reasons for the loss of the old play “The Case of Helen Keller,” deals with the meaning of loss in general: loss of senses, loss of country, loss of the ability to perceive reality in a generally accepted way, loss of identity. [2002]

Through different perspectives, from the personal perspective of the actress speaking in her own name, to the perspective of the historical but also fictional character Helen Keller, a kind of subconscious monologue is created that belongs to the character of an unusual scientist who tells “stories from the void.”

Her stories raise questions: What does the void that remains after the loss contain? What is the meaning of emptiness—absence or presence? Does loss contain the potential for new life?

The performance is dedicated to Jasmina Blažović, Tomaž Gubenšek, and other friends from a country that no longer exists.

“There is no doubt that at this moment in history, Western civilization suffers from a terrible disease of the soul. Faced with this global chaos, our only hope is the transformation of ourselves.” – M. Some

“That which is inaudible, intangible,
formless, imperishable, as well as tasteless, constant, odorless, without beginning, without end, greater than the great, firm – having realized That, you are freed from the jaws of death.” – Katha Upanishad, 3.15.
